I have not heard from you since NABE '94. Did you request a specialpresentation by the SIG, or shall we just have our business meetingas NABE schedules us? What else shall we do to get ready for NABE'95? Do you want me to send a notice to a mailing list? Shallwe prepare some posters or an agenda ahead of time?
One of our concerns last year was making it clear to the membershipof NABE what our focus would be, before they arrive at the meeting.The title reflects a common concern of the entire membership,but we came into existence based on a need to have a Native Americaninterest group gather at NABE.
Did you, or anyone you are aware of work on this?: One of ourstated goals for the '95 conference was that the SIG would workto promote an Indian Education and Native American cultures focus,including:
A strand for Language and Culture Retention issues.
The nomination of Evelyn Begay and others by name to be on theprogram committee and to be readers.
To organize a Native American Institute
To get a NABE telephone credit card
To promote response from our group to the Call for Papers
To encourage NABE to schedule Native American entertainment
To have a Native American theme for the cover
To schedule visits to schools with Native American programs
To encourage NABE and OBEMLA to not lump Native American languageswith the category "other".

Since these are all open items on our last minutes, we will haveto report a status on each. How shall we procede to find the statusbefore mid-February?
