Introductions.
1. Today's Institute included presentations by

c. Martha Hipp, "Student Wellness Programs: Cultural Appropriateness to Promote Resiliency in Adolescents"
d. Roy Howard, "History of the Special Interest Group, Indigenous Bilingual Education"
e. and the following regular session presentations
"Learning Continues Every Day Throughout your Life: An Integrated Thematic Unit on Navajo Weaving"
"Bilingual Education for the Tarahumara of Chihuahua"
"Dual Language: The Navajo Language Advantage Program"
"The White Mountain Apache Teacher Training Program: A Case Study of an Applied Research Model"
"Revitalization of Cherokee Language"
"Lakota/English Acquisition Project: An Early Childhood Model"
"Promoting "Navajo Language Through Literature"

2. We need to encourage our members to submit the Call for Papers by May 17. We will meet again tomorrow at the Marriot Starbucks to submit suggestions to Sharon as to who should present at NABE next year.
3. We need our members to run for NABE Board. After considerable effort during the past year, Leon Rattler was nominated at the NABE Nominations process today.
4. We need more tribes to be visible in all the activities, performances, and displays of each conference.
a. Each member will encourage schools and individuals to apply for NABE participation.
b. Considerable discussion was held at the meeting and outside of the meeting about how to promote visibility next year.
c. Christine Sims of Acoma Pueblo received the NABE President's Award this year for her efforts in Indigenous Bilingual Education.
5. Discussion of issues.
a. Web site, chat room, and list serve for the SIG: http://www.wnmu.org/ibe/index.html
b. Each member is encouraged to contact their legislators through http://congress.org to encourage legislation that takes into consideration indigenous languages and education.
6. Election of Officers
a. Chair: Sharon Peregoy (MT) Vice-chair: John Walter, Secretary: Roy Howard.
b. Elected Council: John Walter, Mandy Mocassin, and Leon Rattler (MT), Jan Littlebear, Sophie Shield and Elsie Jimmie, (AK), Clayton Long (UT), Roy Howard (NM), Lydia Whirlwind Soldier (SD), Jenny de Groat, Louise Lockard, and Pat Carr (AZ),
c. Institute co-chairs: Clayton Long and Jan Littlebear.
7. Motion to adjourn by John, seconded by Elsie. Passed 5:23 pm. Continuation of discussion and planning by officers.
