Social Work
Licensed social workers are in demand all across New Mexico and in other states. A graduate of WNMU’s BSW program is eligible to sit for the social work licensure exam immediately after graduation. Many graduates can enter a master’s program (to obtain an MSW degree, and LMSW licensure) going into the second year, and completely skipping the first year.
Social Work Jobs
Social workers are in demand and employed in a multitude of settings from federal, state, and county levels of government to a multitude of non-profit organizations. Social workers are in demand throughout the southwest. Salaries are competitive and generally include benefits like sick and vacation leave, health insurance and retirement options. Department of Social Work at WNMU
The goals of the Department of Social Work at WNMU are
· to prepare entry-level professional social work practitioners, and
· to prepare students for graduate social work education.
The Department of Social Work at WNMU is committed to the ideal that scholarship be conducted with the purpose of contributing to the development of applied solutions to the complex problems faced by all people, but in particular the culturally diverse populations of New Mexico and Arizona.
~ Financial Support ~
Title IV-E Stipend Program
Title IV-E program provides monies for students who plan to work for the State and Tribal Child Welfare agencies. Program is available to social work juniors and seniors who are interested in working for child protective service agencies within state or tribal entities. Students who qualify for the program receive financial assistance while earning their social work degree and make a commitment to become employed in the field of child protective services upon graduation. The length of time the student is required to work for a child protective agency is dependent upon the amount of financial aid received.
