Lesson 1-Introduction:

Students will begin this project with some introductory activities, such as discussions meant to stimulate prior knowledge in order to develop a framework for upcoming activities.  One important introductory activity would include the students exploring the area’s culture, history, and peoples through a variety of books, videos, and websites.  The library has a nice selection of videos and books on the area that can be ordered by teachers on line at media.gmcs.k12.nm.us or by calling extensions: 51240 or 51241.  There are a wide variety of websites available to use, such as:

Lesson 2-Cultural Quest

Students will choose a culture they would like to explore and begin a “quest” to find out all they can on that culture.  At the end of their quest they will be expected to present some sort of report to the class on the history of that culture using appropriate technology.  After using the Internet to explore their culture’s history they may use the following to present their findings in a creative manner: webbe books, studio 7 movie, PowerPoint, or if they are really motivated a WebPage.

Technology needed:

Computer with Studio 7 hardware, webbe books, PowerPoint, and Internet access, word processing, digital camera or video camera.
